Use the Google Developers Community Leads Platform

This codelab teaches you how to use the Google Developers Community Leads Platform, the go-to resource for everything that Google Developer Group Organizers need. It also teaches you how to use the Slack workspace for GDG Organizers.

What you'll need

  • A Slack account

Log in

To log in to the platform:

  1. Navigate to communityleads.dev.
  2. Click Enter the platform.
  3. If you're prompted to choose an account, select the account that you use for your GDG.

Edit profile

To edit your profile:

  1. Scroll to the end of the platform's home page.
  2. Click Edit profile.
  3. Click Edit profile in the dialog.
  4. Complete your profile.
  • Select Yes In the Allow others to contact you drop-down list.
  1. Click Save.

Set up notifications

To set up notifications:

  1. Scroll to the end of the platform's home page.
  2. Click Setup notifications.
  3. Adjust your settings however you prefer in the dialog.
  4. Click Save.

Follow the GDG leads only board

To follow the GDG leads only board:

  1. Scroll to the Share and learn with others section of the platform's home page.
  2. Find the GDG leads only board.
  3. Click Follow.

Now you get notifications from the board, where you can find global GDG updates.

Explore GDG-specific content

To explore GDG-specific content:

  1. Click the GDG home tab in the navigation bar.
  2. Scroll through the index to see the content available.
  3. Select the topic that you want to learn about.
  4. Check out the helpful resources available for that topic.
  5. Click GDG home > GDG newsletters to see the official newsletter from the Google Developer Groups program, which is sent monthly to all GDG Organizers.

Explore technical content

To explore technical content:

  1. Click Content hub in the navigation bar.
  2. Scroll to see Google's calendar of events.
  3. Click Content hub > Event series organizer guides.
  4. Select an event series of your choice to see the resources available for it.
  5. Click Content hub > All meetup content.
  6. Select the topic of your choice to see the resources available for it.
  7. Click Content hub > Technical discussions.
  8. Select the topic of your choice to see the resources available for it.
  9. Click Content hub > Event support form.
  10. Complete the form to request support from your Regional Lead with an event series or meetup event.

Explore non-technical content

To explore non-technical content:

  1. Click Academy in the navigation bar.
  2. Scroll to see non-technical content about community management and skills.
  3. Click Academy > Community Management.
  4. Scroll to see content that can help you manage your GDG.
  5. Click Academy > Soft & applied skills.
  6. Scroll to see content that can help you develop soft and applied skills.
  7. Click Academy > Tech skills & certifications.
  8. Scroll to see content that can help you develop your technical skills and earn certifications.

Find event speakers

To find Googlers or Google Developer Experts to speak at an event:

  1. Click Speaker matching in the navigation bar.
  2. Complete the request form.

Connect with other GDG Organizers and Google community leaders

To connect with other GDG Organizers and leaders of other Google communities:

  1. Click Members > Member search in the navigation bar.
  2. Scroll to see community leaders, or search for them based on their expertise, location, and other criteria.

Communicate with other GDG Organizers and Google community leaders

To communicate with other GDG Organizers and leaders of other Google communities:

  1. Click Member > Board: Leads exchange in the navigation bar to see what other community leaders are sharing.
  2. To create a post:
  3. Click Create a post.
  4. Create your post in the dialog that appears.
  5. Click Save to publish your post to the top of the board.

To use the Slack workspace for GDG Organizers:

  1. Navigate to the email that invites you to join the workspace.
  2. Click Join now in the email. This step opens Slack in a new browser tab.
  3. If you're prompted to log in to your Slack account, log in one of the following three ways:
  • Click Sign in with Google, then select your Google Account.
  • Click Sign in with Apple, then enter your Apple ID.
  • Enter your username and password, then click Sign in.
  1. If you get a redirect notice, wait for the workspace to load or click use Slack in your browser. This step opens the workspace in a new tab.
  2. Review the channels that you can access in the workspace, but these three channels are the most important:
  • announcements: A channel with updates from the global GDG team
  • events: A channel where you can promote your GDG's events
  • general: A channel where you can talk about anything GDG
